The Making of 'the Hunt for Gollum'

Written by Forum Editor Sunday, 03 May 2009 02:48

While strictly relevant to TV production, The Hunt for Gollum is a fan-film based in Tolkien's mythical world that attempts to replicate the feel of the Peter Jackson epic trilogy.

Whereas Jackson spent around $USD285 Million to create middle earth, writer/director Chris Bouchard has spent approximately £3000 to bring his 40-minute adventure to the silver screen.

Utilising just a Sony HDR-FX1 as the main camera and a Panasonic HVX200, the film's trailers show an undeniably filmic quality and while the budget may have been small, the cast and crew numbered over 160.

Due to be released today, Sunday May 3, Bouchard's next film is set to be an original for-profit sci-fi feature.

redrockIf we're all going to be shooting features on our DLSRs, we're going to need support to ward off the shakes.

Compatible with all the big HD video capable DLSRs, Redrock's Hybrid Cinema Rig provides a light stablisation frame, plus a means to handle focus while still maintaining your grip.

Rest for your weary wrists...

Written by Kelsey Brookes Wednesday, 22 April 2009 02:05

wristshotI guess this is one for those planning on shooting their great feature masterpiece on dad's handycam.

WristShot is a camera support for cameras too small to be workable on a steadicam. Most steadicam-type systems require a minimum amount of camera-weight to function effectively.

Despite my deprecating comments above, this is probably quite a useful bit of kit to have around, considering how many features (and megapixels) are getting packed into smaller form-factor HD cams these days.
