Tracking your virality

Written by Kelsey Brookes Wednesday, 27 May 2009 02:06

Yes, I just made that word up. 'Virality': how many mentions does your brand get on viral media sources?

ViralHeat to the rescue, tracking your individual or company name against dozens of viral video sites (YouTube, DailyMotion, etc) and Twitter.

From there you can see how well you fare across the various media platforms and determine the most popular content that mentions you. Data can be exported for easy integration in reports.

Best of all, it starts at only $10 per month.

UK to get Hulu

Written by Kelsey Brookes Friday, 22 May 2009 02:09

Looks like the drought might be broken, at least if you're British.

Hulu has announced a hoped-for September launch date with over 3000 hours of US TV programming available in addition to attempting to offer content from the BBC, ITV and Channel 4.

Let's hope Hulu can manage the same thing in dear old Blighty's colonies.

Hulu, nearly #2

Written by Kelsey Brookes Thursday, 21 May 2009 22:00

In March this year, Hulu overtook Yahoo to become the third most-viewed video service online with over 50,000 more viewers than its defeated rival.

At over 380,000 videos viewed, it also only needs another 60,000 views per month before it overtakes Fox Interactive Media.

And that's where things get a little harder for our favourite little monetised video service. To overtake Google (which of course includes YouTube) they're going to need to increase their viewership by over 600% to even come close the behemoth's 5 million plus views per month.

Hulu is playing a slightly different game, of course. It has a solid monetisation strategy and a focus on long-form videos, a perfect platform for ad distribution. YouTube has had more difficulty producing revenue from their service, despite the million or so videos of kittens doing incredibly cute things.

Not one but TWO 8K projectors

Written by Kelsey Brookes Thursday, 21 May 2009 21:52

Hot on the heels of JVC's announcement of an 8K projector and matching 4K camera, E&S have "Me Too'd" their way into this fairly unnecessary field with their 8K Laser Projector.

E&S, however have also added that their projector can do 3D. Take that, JVC.

Advertisers, listen up

Echoing my own thoughts on the matter, Joel Johnson over at BoingBoing makes a great point about why advertisers should embrace Hulu.

Advertisers, remember this about Hulu viewers

Physical media? How quaint.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, has been cancelled.

While I thought that Chronicles became a particularly compelling bit of prime-time sci-fi, I'm not here to mourn its demise. If I can get over Firefly I can get over anything.

What's really pushed my 'Big Media Just Don't Get It' button is the possible plans for future stories from the series: Apparently straight-to-dvd movies are the way to go.

Despite the stigma of this kind of production, Warner Brothers are still bound into their shiny-little-disc strategy and feel that this is the way forward.

I've got an idea:

How about monetising international online distribution?
